An Automation Readiness Checklist for Business Owners
Automation depends on more than choosing a platform. The business needs a defined process, usable data, appropriate access, and someone responsible for the workflow after launch. A readiness review makes those dependencies visible before implementation begins.

Confirm the process and ownership
Identify the business owner, the people who perform the work, and the decision maker for changes. Document the trigger and expected outcome. Note which steps require judgment and which follow repeatable rules. An unclear process often needs an operational decision before it needs an integration.
Inspect the information
List the fields required at each step and where they come from. Look for inconsistent names, duplicate records, missing identifiers, and information stored only in free-text notes. Decide which system owns each important field. A workflow should not overwrite an authoritative record merely because another system contains a newer timestamp.
Check access and dependencies
Confirm that the relevant tools support the required connections and that the appropriate account permissions are available. Record who controls subscriptions, credentials, and billing. Evaluate access based on the actual task, and keep ownership with the business. Do not assume that every tool exposes every action through an integration.
Plan operation after launch
Name the person who reviews failures and the route for requesting changes. Define what documentation, sample tests, and handoff materials are required. Clarify whether continuing monitoring is included in the project or needs a separate support scope.
The readiness output can be a one-page checklist with ready, needs work, and blocked items. Resolve material blockers before promising a launch date. This turns discovery into a concrete plan and helps both sides distinguish an integration problem from a missing business decision.
